A Filthy Christmas Miracle
I’ve loved Tina Fey’s 30 Rock since the first episode. The show is witty, clever, and has the best comedic acting on television. I think it is the best over all comedy on television right now. And unlike Fey’s stint on Saturday Night Live, the political jokes on 30 Rock have no sacred cow.
30 Rock is a bit like The Simpsons, with pop-culture references and in-jokes, crossed with the unpredictability of Arrested Development. But last night’s episode (Ludachristmas) contained one of the most obscure, and dirty, joke references yet.
Fey’s character, Liz Lemon, is having dinner with her family, and Jack Donaghy (”Alec Baldwin”). Liz’s father pays for the meal, but Donaghy says he should pay. The father insists on paying the bill and says “It wouldn’t be a Lemon party without old Dick!” meaning Donaghy. But if you know what “Lemon party” is, that is to say you’ve spent way too much time on the Internet, you’ll recognize the reference.
I don’t know if I should be impressed, disgusted, or both. But I do know that 30 Rock is about as far away from Two and a Half Men as you can get. I hope they win another Emmy.
